Where can I buy a pet chinchilla in North America?
Recently, I've developed a liking for chinchillas and would like to have one as a pet. The problem is, chins are native to South America. I've heard from my friend and read online that they can be bought in North America, but I'm not sure where? Other than Petsmart, where would a good place to look be?
I was a proud chin owner for years and purchased mine from an array of sources including Petsmart, Petco, a mom-n-pop private owned pet store, and the local Classifieds. I have also seen them in my local animal shelter, but not all shelters are equipt to handle small animals, especially ones that can be difficult and require specific temperature control, such as reptiles and chinchillas.
