Reading The Body Language Of Guinea Pig

One of the guinea pig's qualities that certainly sets it distant from other small pets is its way of communicating with you and with other animals. How can a get my male adult guinea pig a friend?

I already know from previous experiences that my guinea pig Einstein does not get along well with other adult male guinea pigs. He seems lonely and needs a friend. I do not want to purchase a femal guinea pig, even if she is netured. Would a baby male guinea pig work?

From my experience getting a baby male tends to work as your adult male wants to be the dominant one and so a baby guinea pig is less likely to try and fight with your male to become the herd 'leader'. It tends to be quite hard to introduce males to one another and i would suggest this for introductions;
Prepare a room theyve never been in before by laying towels on the floor and blocking off any areas they can get behind. Put out 2 plates of veggies and a load of toys (but not anything one of them could become cornered in so no pigloos)
Get a friend to help you out and put both pigs in the area at the same time (so one doesnt have time to mark before the other one arives)
Sit down and leave them for an hour or two, there will be humping, spraying urine and chasing but just leave them be and only seperate if blood is drawn. Once the two hours is up put them in the cage together (you'll need to have a cage big enough for the two of them so preferably 8.5 to 9 square ft (this will reduce the likelyness of a fight. Always put 2 of everything in the cage so two bottles, two plates of veggies ect as these can cause fights too. Also make sure (if your using the same cage as your old pigs one) that you have thourougly cleaned it, that way his markings will not cause problems. It is good to move things around for them everyday as this will stop them becoming over familiar with the cage which can also cause arguments.
